Irish Water confirms domestic customers paid €18.3m during fifth billing cycle

In total, 989,000 customers (65%) paid some or all of their domestic water charges over the first five bill cycles
Irish Water has today confirmed that it has received €18.3m from its fifth billing cycle during April and May, covering services provided from January to March 2016. The planned nine month suspension of domestic water charges was announced by the Government as the fifth bill was issuing to customers.
14,000 customers started paying for the first time during bill cycle 5, hence 989,000 householders (65%) have now paid some or all of their water charges. This compares to 975,000 at the end of the fourth billing cycle. Domestic customer revenue received during the fourth billing cycle was €33.4m.
Government has confirmed that any shortfall in funding from domestic charges during their suspension will be provided to Irish Water by the Exchequer. This will allow Irish Water to continue to deliver on its Business Plan.
Irish Water will not issue any bills to domestic customers during the suspension period. Domestic customers remain liable for balances due on any bills issued to date and Irish Water continues to accept payment and to deal with any billing queries in relation thereto.
There is no change to water service charges for Business customers as they are unaffected by the suspension of domestic water charges.
